There are numerous metrics to describe the different aspects of image quality, but there are only a few standards that rate these metrics. There are only a few guidelines and normes, proposed from different sources and backgrounds. Some guidelines, norms or standards can target one specific subject, like those from the ISO. There are also some all-round guidelines for image quality, like national guidelines as FADGI from the USA or Metamorfoze from the Netherlands. In this article, guidelines and norms will be treated as being standards.

All-round standards

FADGI

The Federal Agencies Digitization Guidelines Initiative is a collaborative effort by federal agencies to define common guidelines, methods and practices for digitizing historical content. In this context, the term 'FADGI' refers to the Technical Guidelines for Digitizing Cultural Heritage Materials by the still image working group. As a guideline, FADGI assesses image quality by providing 1 to 4 stars for several image quality aspects. Read more on the FADGI on this wiki.

Metamorfoze

Metamorfoze is a Dutch national programme for the preservation of paper heritage. Projects it subsidizes must agree to their image quality guidelines. Read more on Metamorfoze on this wiki.
